The Federal Government has announced that it will match donations to aid agencies running appeals for the Horn of Africa. At a recent World Vision forum it was stated that 700,000 people face death in the next six months as the famine continues. The situation is being made worse by life-threatening cholera and measles outbreaks in the region.
Sixteen agencies meet the government guidelines that require them to:
Of those sixteen at least nine have a church /christian connection. So there is no excuse for Christians not to give to send aid to this desperate situation. It also is to the credit of Christian aid agencies that they constitute a majority of the Australian groups active in the Horn of Africa crisis.
There is a deadline of November 30 for donations to qualify for the dollar for dollar offer.
