Reading the Bible aloud

2:22pm Saturday, 22nd October 2011

As this story goes live at Eternity, the King James  New Testament  is being read aloud by Ashfield Baptist Church in inner west Sydney. The “Bible Relay” is expected to last 18 hours from 5am to 11pm.

The church’s English, Spanish and Chinese congregations have joined together to read the 400 year old translation aloud. When Eternity visited, the relay was getting to the end of John. The sponsored “Bible Relay” is raising money for Bible translation.

Ashfield Baptist is using the same Bible that the church used in 1947, when they ran a similar New Testament reading. One of the organisers, Norma Smith, took part in the reading 64 years ago.

Historic Bibles from the Bible Society are on display in the Church’s Goodman Hall

It’s a big project for the church. Please pray for the readers.
