John Stott will be remembered on Friday in a service of thanksgiving at St Andrew's Cathedral in Sydney.
The towering figure of worldwide evangelicalism has been remembered on blogs and news sources in all corners of the world since his death last week. Tributes in the remembrance book on his memorial website have neared 1000. The Anglican Archbishop of Sydney has called him a "Prince".
Sydneysiders and others in Australia will take time out to pay tribute to the man whose ministry and writings influenced so many.
In a statement, Peter Jensen said, "We thank God for the inspiring life and ministry of John Stott. He was one of the most remarkable Christian leaders of his generation. His impact in Sydney was especially that of an evangelist and an expository Bible teacher, but his faithfulness and creativity ensured a world-wide influence on many fronts.
"He was a man used by God to bless the lives of countless others," Archbishop Jensen said.
All are invited to join the service of thanksgiving at 1.30pm, Friday, August 5.
