John Sandeman The issue of students opting out of Scripture periods in NSW schools has not been solved during the trial of an ethics course intended as an alternative to Scripture teaching. In a submission to the NSW government review of a trial of “ethics” classes held during SRE time, a submission by The Inter-Church Commission on Religious Education in Schools (ICCOREIS), pointed out that in the trial schools not all the non-Scripture kids enrolled in the ethics classes.

The ABC’s election night headline “Green tide sweeps Fielding for Senate” was wrong. The last Senate seat in Victoria was being fought over by Family First, the Democratic Labor Party and the coalition as Eternity went to press. This meant a senator from a conservative party (with Pentecostal roots) was possibly replaced by a senator from a conservative party (with Catholic roots) or by a plain conservative. Not a green.

When he first delivered it in Melbourne last year, Dr Peter Adam's lecture on Australian land rights prompted a strong response from Christians and non-Christians.
After hearing "Australia: whose land", some were deeply challenged. For others, "dislike" would be putting it mildly.
Dr Adam, principal of Ridley Melbourne Theological College, will deliver the same address in Manly on Friday night (details in full story).

Roz Brain, of International Nepal Fellowship (INF) Australia Let me introduce you to Divya, the manager of a remote NGO in rural Nepal. He attended a Bible school in northern India and is recognized as the most educated man in his village. He leads his staff in integral mission and manages his responsibilities well, leading by example and making hard decisions alone. But he is increasingly aware that he could benefit from practical teaching to be able to continue to attend to the growing variety of relational and spiritual issues that affect the lives of the people he serves – and he longs for training and support in this.
